Are you pushing to grow personally and professionally this year? We can’t have growth without challenging ourselves. Unfortunately, many of us avoid challenging ourselves. Why? Because it’s uncomfortable! Luckily, challenging yourself doesn’t have to mean trying something terrifying, or stretching yourself to the point of exhaustion. Let’s talk about some easy ways you can challenge yourself to encourage personal growth.
Step Outside of Your Comfort Zone
This is one may seem obvious! Stepping outside of your comfort zone can lead to amazing things. If doing something scary feels uncomfortable to you, start small. If you’re introverted, reach out to a colleague to grab a cup of coffee, or book a Skype call. If you struggle to sell, try taking a course, or reading a book, or working with a business coach. Find small, meaningful ways to step outside of your comfort zone and grow into the best version of yourself.
Drop a Bad Habit
We all have bad habits. Whether it’s grabbing fast food dinner out on your way home, or skipping your workout after a night up with your sick kiddos, work on dropping a bad habit this week. You don’t have to go cold turkey, or completely change your lifestyle. Try picking just one bad habit to focus on. Creating a Power List is a great way to develop a habit over time.
Create a Routine
Routines may seem boring to some, but they truly help you to thrive! If you’re someone who fights against routine, or feels like you always need something new and exciting to fill your time, try to change your mindset this week.
You don’t need to time block your whole day, but you can take the time to create an easy morning routine or evening routine. These routines don’t need to take more than 5 minutes, and can really help to bookend your days. Morning routines help you to clear your head and find balance for productivity and success. Evening routines can help you to wind down and prepare your mind and body for rest. Both are valuable if you want to continue growing!
Cut Negative People From Your Life
This might be the hardest personal growth challenge of all. Everyone I know has some kind of negativity in their lives. Sometimes it’s a colleague or coworker, sometimes it’s a client who rubs you the wrong way. More often than that, it’s a friend or family member who drains you, but that you feel obligated to keep speaking with and interacting with.
You deserve to surround yourself with people who lift you up, support your growth, and challenge you to be your best self. You deserve to say “no” to people who drain you, or make you miserable. If you have someone who comes to mind (and I know we all do) practice slowly stepping away from them this week.
Focus on Positivity
Whether you focus on a gratitude practice, or just pause multiple times a day to think about what’s positive in your life, intentionally focusing on the positive is a game changer! Thinking about life, or your current situation, with a positive outlook can motivate you to keep going and growing through life’s many challenges.
